SENT Decoder is a configuration and monitoring app for the SAE J2716 SENT Decoder hardware device. The app pairs with the hardware via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or USB-C, lets you monitor decoded sensor signals in real time, and configure routing of the four analog outputs.
Why is the app asking for Location permission on Android?
Android 6.0 to 11 requires Location permission for any app that uses Bluetooth scanning, even when Location is not used by the app itself. SENT Decoder does not use, store, or transmit your location. On Android 12 and newer, only Bluetooth permissions are requested.
Why does Bluetooth scanning find no devices?
Why does the analog output bar show a different value than expected?
If you have set a non-zero Bias in the Routing tab, the in-app oscilloscope shows the source signal plus the bias (matching what the physical DB15 pin outputs). The dashboard gauges and value bars always show the un-biased source value. The yellow highlighted "+NNN" badge indicates the bias amount.
How do I save and reload my configuration?
Use the Presets tab to save up to 8 named configurations and reload any of them. Configurations include all SENT input settings, AO routing, scaling, and bias values.
What does the colour code mean?
Please email a description of the issue, the app version (visible in the top status bar, e.g. "v3.2.8"), and your device model and OS version. Screenshots help a lot.
The current app version supports SENT Decoder hardware Revision 7 (with MDBT50Q-P1MV2 BLE module and CP2102N USB-C interface). DB15 pinout follows the documented standard:
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | +5 V supply (output) |
| 2–5 | Analog outputs AO 1 to AO 4 |
| 6 | SENT input 1 |
| 7 | SENT input 2 |
| 8–15 | GND / reserved |
SENT Decoder does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
